    Snake Repellant

    By OnTopic | December 29, 2009

Getting rid of snakes is quite of challenge in globe areas where people die because of snake bites. Presently, some manufacturers have come up with special snake repellant systems, yet, besides the ready made items, there are common sense things that you can turn to so as eliminate the odds of snakes making their nest in your garden. First of all, bushes, shrubs and ponds are great snake habitats, as they provide a great hiding place to wait for prey; moreover, in a bushy garden, snakes can travel from one spot to another without difficulty. Therefore, a first snake repellant solution is to keep thick vegetation away from the house.

Then, tall grass on an unkempt lawn represents a good hiding place for snakes, therefore, lawn mowing makes one second snake repellant means you should have in mind. Moreover, such a lawn represents the perfect environment for some of the favorite meals in the menu of a snake: mice and other small rodents, frogs, locusts and crickets. A short lawn will be avoided by snakes as an open space that makes them vulnerable to the attack of other predatory species like hawks and owls. Any cluttered area around the house can cause just as much trouble, turning into nests for venomous or non-venomous snakes. Hence, eliminate wood stacks, open sheds and compost heaps around the house.

In wild areas on the Black continent, local people knit camel or goat hair ropes as great snake repellant means: snakes cannot move over such rough and unpleasant surfaces. Aborigines will often surround their open-air sleeping area with such ropes to protect. Modern tent design takes this snake repellant issue very seriously, thus there are usually nets that have to be zipped up in order to prevent snakes and other insects from getting inside. Always check whether the entrance of the tent is well zipped, preferably in the upper part of the tent closing area, or else you could end up sharing your bed with uninvited guests.

Snake repellants are also sold as window sill protections, foams, nets or traps. Many such equipments are considered unfair according to animal rights protection. Consequently, it would be wise to focus on harmless snake repellant ways. If by any chance you come across lethal snakes living in your garden, do not attempt to destroy or chase them away, as they will strike back when threatened. Ask for some pest control service and order the animals safely relocated in a wild area, and nothing bad will happen either to the snake or your family.
