By OnTopic | September 1, 2010
If you are weary of looking at your curtains or bare windows, then the decorative window film is the best solution for you. Window film is far more budget-friendly than having your windows renovated and it is very easy to install. The Do-It-Yourself aspect of this product is something anybody can complete in no time and with very marginal effort. The static cling film can be applied on glass windows without needing any adhesive material. You would not have to worry about setting it perfectly on the window because it is non adhesive and you can easily adjust it to your liking.
A wide array of designs, colors, and patterns is available that would turn your windows into a stylish work of interior design. You only have to select what you think is most ideal for the window you have in mind. Before purchasing the decorative window film, make sure that you measure the surface area of the window that you are going to apply it to. Give some allowance on the final measurement so you have sufficient material to work with. Cut the desired length and width, and place it on your window to see if you got the size right, especially if you are covering the entire surface area. The static cling window film is now ready for installation. Gather the tools that you would need such as a squeegee, a hand spray, and soapy water, and you can now begin your project.
Your windows upgrade can be completed by doing these five easy steps:
1. The full glass surface should be completely clean. Make sure it is free from dust, dirt, or grime that may have accumulated on the glass over time. You can use a soft cloth with soap and water. A window bath is to ensure good adherence of the film on the glass.
2. Use a liberal amount of soapy water on the glass surface using the hand spray. This would act as an adhesive material or glue for your static cling window film.
3. Detach the window film from its paper backing. You can start peeling it off in one of the corners. As the window film can be recycled, make sure that your keep the original backing paper in a secure place. This would come in convenient in case you need to transfer the decorative film to another window or in case you need to store it and use it again another time.
4. Set the film on the wet glass surface using your hands. Covering broad areas may require assistance from someone else. But since it is static cling film, you need not worry about getting it in the right position immediately. You would not have a problem adjusting the non adhesive film absolutely, whether you are just using decorative accents for borders, corners, and centerpieces or covering the whole area. No glue or messy adhesive material is needed.
5. As soon as you have set the film in the desired position, use the squeegee to eliminate water and air bubbles. Make sure the film is evenly coated to the glass surface without gaps to make it look like it is part of the original design of the whole glass.
Your window is now ready to impress visitors. The challenging part about decorative window films is not the installation process but rather in determining which film design to use. There are just so many lovely designs that it is hard to decide what you liked best, be it stained glass window film, etched glass window film, frosted window film, privacy window film or see through window film.
