Metal Wine Racks – Providing Aesthetic Beauty As Well As Strength

    By OnTopic | January 1, 2009

Metal wine racks can be a very sensible decision when selecting a good way to store and protect your wine collection. This is because the very nature of the material they are made from makes them durable, sturdy and long-lasting. But in addition to these more down to earth factors, in most cases you will also discover that a metal wine rack can almost be considered a work of art with the creative designs and the intricate detail that is often seen in them.

But even aside from the aesthetics of wine racks and the beauty that they lend to any setting where they are found, they are also very practical. A wrought iron wine rack is a durable piece of furniture that has a practical purpose of safeguarding a wine collection. And, because of the material it is made from it will very likely become a family heirloom that is passed down from generation to generation. When properly cared for there is no saying how long a metal wine rack can provide serviceable function in great style for your collection of dessert wines, red wines or white wines.

There are numerous types and styles of metal wine racks to be found. The largest of this type of wine rack is the full-size unit that is free standing and designed to sit on the floor and that can hold dozens of wine bottles. For the wine rack that you will choose, there is a range of sizes available in many configurations designed for floor use all the way down to small racks for table top use, with the smallest being able to hold just one wine bottle.

When it comes to the large wine racks made of metal, the styles vary from those that are very much like cabinets that have rows of holes to support the wine bottles on their sides in a very neat and orderly fashion. These would be considered more of a traditional wine storage rack and they will fit well against a wall. Some have doors that close, and can even be locked if necessary, giving them the feel of an armoire except that they are not solid.

There are also more flowing designs and shapes. Some have very curvaceous frames and the spaces for the wine bottles are cleverly worked into the design and there is not the appearance of strict rows or shelves. With this type, the back is usually flat so they also work against walls. Because of the flowing design, this type of wine storage rack generally will hold fewer bottles of wine but some people prefer the more flowing feel to the overall shape of the piece.

There are large sized metal racks that have even more of a free-flow pattern to them, and one of the most striking that has been seen is designed to look very much like a tree with branches that appear to drape. These unique wine racks have spaces intertwined into the tree form where you can place the wine bottles upside down and they appear to almost become part of the tree. While fun and engaging, this type of metal wine rack also requires the right kind of setting and plenty of space to allow it to be appreciated.

The smaller metal wine racks that are designed for use on the table-top also have many options and a range of sizes. The larger table-top models might hold from six to ten bottles and often are placed on kitchen countertops or on a buffet table in the dining room, while the smallest can be a convenient place to hold one bottle during dinner.

Why some people would pay outlandish retail prices for wine racks and accessories is a mystery. There are many great online retailers that offer incredible discounts and sales on wines and accessories to enjoy your glass of wine. Nice crystal flutes for champagne, wine glasses that tinkle when touched against each other and more are just the start of what these stores have in stock. You do not have to pay those high prices and you should not. Do some looking around to find the best deals.
