A Flashback from Way Back
By OnTopic | February 9, 2010
Relax. You are not having a flashback. Retro video game systems have made a massive resurgence in recent years, seemingly because of the very fact that some kids never grow up. There seems to be a true affection among the techno-geeks out there for the original gaming systems. A cursory search of the net can yield lots of results for websites dedicated to retro gaming. These systems were all the rage back within the day, and it appears that their time has come again.
Back after I was a young boy, these gaming systems were like a gift from the heavens. The sole method I was ready to play video games was to travel downtown to the arcade. This posed a vital drawback, as my parents weren’t too keen on the concept of letting me go downtown by myself. Furthermore, the native arcade tended to attract some shady characters. I skipped faculty one afternoon and went all the way down to play Ms. Percent-Man, however I got caught by a truant officer. When that incident, my parents were solely too eager to shop for me the new Atari.
Man, I loved that system. The Atari 2600 had all the simplest games. Asteroids was, by way, my favorite game. Dude, I may play that game forever. Or so it seemed. What regarding Pitfall? I loved that game, too. Then, Kung-Fu Master came out! I do not assume I left my bedroom for a month. At the time, I swore I wouldn’t sleep till I rescued the honest Princess Victoria. Damn those knife throwers! To this day, my oldsters still blame that game for the decline in my grades that semester.
By the point the home video game market bottomed out in 1984, I had amassed a rather massive assortment of games. I kind of lost interest in video games around that time. I ended up giving my Atari and every one of the games to my child brother. I did not play it much anymore, and I was too busy trying to get a girlfriend. Looking back, I wish I had kept that system. I might like to pay an evening playing House Invaders! Maybe I’ll see if that arcade remains open. I surprise if girls ever go there……
